Continued restrictions have caused growing concerns for restaurant and hotel operators. While they remain in limbo, Justin Winslow, President and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association says some of the decisions by Governor Whitmer and her team have been confusing.

“You go to the mall and a formal restaurant in the mall is closed, but the food court is open,” says Winslow. “You go to a grocery store and you can eat some of the restaurant-style food that exists while you’re in the grocery store, but you better not go to a restaurant. So it’s been frustrating for those in need of a lifeline.”

According to a new survey out today, half of Michigan restaurant operators say they’re considering temporarily closing until after the pandemic ends.
