The city manager of New Buffalo has died, weeks after being hospitalized with coronavirus. A message posted to the city’s website says David Richards “will be sorely missed because he was a great city leader, friend, and coworker.” The city announced in early December he was hospitalized with COVID-19 complications. At the time, he was one of five city hall employees to have the illness. The city council this month appointed Police Chief Rich Killips acting city manager. The city’s website says Richards had served as city manager since 2017, and he “brought the community “into a strong financial position which was not the case when he took office, and a brand new downtown.”
