There is a new Protect Michigan Commission in the Department of Health and Human Services. Governor Whitmer has created the bipartisan task force, which will be chaired by Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, former Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley, and seven others.

“This commission will help raise awareness of the safety and effectiveness of approved COVID-19 vaccines, will educate the people of our state, and will help protect the health and safety of all Michigan residents,” says Whitmer. She says they are opening up the commission to anyone who wants to serve.

“They will be uniquely equipped to help reinforce the importance that we all get vaccinated.”

The Protect Michigan Commission will serve in an advisory capacity to Governor Whitmer and DHHS. It will, among other things, identify barriers that may impede the acceptance of an approved COVID-19 vaccine by Michigan residents, including identifying areas or groups within this state that are likely to experience vaccine hesitancy, and develop an outreach action plan designed to overcome these barriers. The Commission must complete its work and submit a brief final report to the governor by December 31, 2021.
