The state issuing new restrictions in a bid to curb Michigan’s spiking coronavirus cases. Under the new rules, restaurants and bars will be closed except for carryout or delivery. Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association President and CEO Justin Winslow says this is particularly devastating for restaurants, which were forced to close once already earlier this year.

“We also believe this is likely not going to just be a three-week order that this will at least go through the holidays,” says Winslow. “So for this industry, that’s probably going to mean 250,000 to 300,000 employees laid off over the holiday season. That’s also going to mean upwards of 5,000 to 6000 restaurants closing permanently, for good.”

The restrictions begin Wednesday and last three weeks.
