Legislation is being introduced in Lansing in both the House and Senate to support military personnel, veterans, and their families by reducing barriers to professional licensure. Servicemembers will be eligible if they hold a valid occupational license in another state, are in good standing with no pending disciplinary action, and demonstrate competency in their profession through education, training and/or work experience. Governor Whitmer says the Department of Licensing and Regulatory will determine whether these criteria are satisfied.

“It will mean that veterans and service members and family members that have a professional license in a different state can become licensed here in Michigan without having to jump through a bunch of hoops,” says Whitmer.

“We’re going to make it easier for them to keep their license from another state and move them over,” says Senator Adam Hollier of Detroit. “That’s what we’ve got to do.”

He’s joined by Republican Senator John Bizon and Representatives Andrea Schroeder and Sarah Anthony in introducing the bills.
