Berrien County’s COVID-19 numbers are continuing to rise. County Health Department Health Officer Nicki Britten told the St. Joseph City Commission Monday night there has been a significant increase over the past five weeks.

“To give some more context, we do want to look at percent positivity, so what percentage of tests done is coming back positive,” said Britten. “We want to see the trends in that, and that is increasing in Berrien County.”

She adds hospitalizations and deaths are also up, but not as sharply as cases. Britten says prevention comes down to the same three things.

“It’s the ‘Three W’s.’ Wear your mask, watch your distance as you want at least six feet between you and other people, and you want to wash your hands frequently.”

Britten adds with Thanksgiving approaching, everyone needs to keep gatherings smaller than normal.
