When To Expect Election Results

When will votes be counted for the general election? Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says it’s a huge undertaking. Could we know winners by Wednesday?

“I could see that as a possibility, but I would caution people not to expect it as there’s just too many variables in the process, including when people return their ballot,” says Benson. “As I’ve mentioned, our ballots begin being counted at 7 a.m., but people can return absentee ballots up until 8 p.m. on Election Day and hundreds of thousands could arrive toward the end of the day on Tuesday.”

Benson says all of those votes will still have to be processed, validate and sorted. She says it’s realistic that all votes will be counted by Friday.
