Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is providing a little more information on her open carry ban on Election Day November 3rd. She said she issued the statewide order on Friday to try to keep everyone safe.

“We certainly saw a number of pieces of information, no specific threats, but a lot of concern from voters all across the state, as well as to clerks,” says Benson.

She added that while she had no specific threats, talk of harming state officials had been widespread.

“It’s been dominating with the threats against the governor and state officials and lawmakers. It’s been dominating much of the conversation and recognizing that, we want to make sure people are safe and not fearful.”

Benson adds it is not a gun ban, and people licensed to carry concealed weapons can still do that.
