City Commission Approves Street, Alley Work

Benton Harbor City Commissioners have approved another round of street work. During a Monday meeting, they approved a $310,000 with Kalin Construction for work that will include repairs to alleys. Mayor Marcus Muhammad said the alley work will be rolled out south to north.

“That is a pretty aggressive street plan as well as alleys,” Muhammad said. “This  first year we’ll be doing alleys with more to come.”

Muhammad said some alleys are badly in need of repairs. Commissioner Mary Alice Adams asked if speed bumps would be installed as part of some of the street work, but City Manager Ellis Mitchell said police recommended against them.
