United States Secretary of Energy Dan Brouilette is in Michigan this week to learn about some of the state’s energy needs and the work Michigan does in that sector. One stop will take Secretary Brouilette to a Ford facility. He spoke with Michigan News Network about it.

“We’re going to be looking at some of the advanced designs that they have for electric vehicles,” Brouilette said. “We work closely with the auto manufacturers on things like materials, material science, additive manufacturing 3D printing, scaling those technologies up so the auto industry can use them efficiently. We’re also going to be looking at battery technology. We’re trying to move beyond lithium.”

Brouilette says the move beyond a lithium battery would make electric vehicles easier to use and less costly to purchase. He’s also toured a Michigan State University facility that uses nuclear energy to help treat cancer patients.
