Governor Whitmer is announcing a new program to offer tuition-free college for thousands of Michiganders who served on the front lines during the first months of the coronavirus pandemic. The Futures for Frontliners program offers those without college degrees or high school diplomas a tuition-free way to get a degree.

“We’ve got to work around the clock to make sure that after this crisis is over, our frontline workers have the support they need to get ahead in our country,” said Whitmer. “Support whether it’s dealing with PTSD, especially those who’ve been on front lines caring for people who’ve been battling COVID-19, the people showing up and putting their own health on the line, to make sure the rest of us can stay safe.”

Whitmer says this is the first program like this in the US, and $24 million will be put into it. That money will come from the federal CARES Act. Those interested need to apply by the end of the year at michigan.gov/frontliners.
