We’re in the midst of back to school shopping, but it’s nothing like in years past. Instead of stocking up on new clothes and backpacks, parents are buying items for their kids to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. That’s according to a survey of 12-hundred parents and teachers by Meijer.

“We’re seeing a big change. It’s the biggest new normal is that nine of 10 parents rate safety measures as the deciding factor of where they’re gonna shop and what they’re going to shop for,” says regional vice president Matt Craig. “We’re seeing that personal protecting equipment is top of the list.”

Craig says they’re selling a lot of face masks, hand sanitizer, and wipes. He also says white boards are a hot item with more virtual learning and zoom calls. He says back to school shopping has been delayed as many schools didn’t decide their plan until recently.
