St. Joseph High School will hold a socially distanced graduation ceremony this weekend. St. Joseph Public Schools Superintendent Thomas Bruce tells WSJM News they’re gathering at Dickinson Stadium Sunday at 6 p.m. for a drive-in graduation.

“The drive-in idea is a great idea because every student household will have a car,” Bruce said. “They’ll drive in to our stadium parking lot, we’ll have big screens put up from TPC Media, and we’ll have a stage up front, just like normal. We’ll have student speeches like normal, board president speech just like normal, while we’re keeping a safety distance.”

Bruce says as they hand out diplomas, students will be called up ten in a row, distanced, and with masks. They’ll get their diploma, get a picture taken, and then go back to their car.

“We’ll have all of our students together, which we know from our kids they want to be together one last time. And we’re having it in our stadium, so that’s great.”

Bruce says this drive-thru graduation is possible because the district delayed graduation long enough to the point where they could plan for it. The event will be livestreamed over Facebook.
