Three people are safe after their canoe capsized in the Black River channel in South Haven on Tuesday. South Haven Area Emergency Services says two adults and a three-year-old child were in the canoe. Responder Matthew Dey was on his mid-afternoon rounds checking the beach flags and pier life rings when he saw the capsized canoe with people in the water. They were wearing life jackets. Dey threw a life ring to the man and was able to pull him and the child to a ladder along the channel. He then threw a second life ring to the woman and pulled her to the ladder. The family had rented a canoe up-river and while in the channel was caught by a wave causing the canoe to capsize. There were no injuries.
