Childhood obesity is a big problem, not only here in the U.S. but across the world. A recent study found the majority of tweens and teens are not meeting the guidelines of getting 60 minutes of exercise a day. 80% were not reaching that goal. Dr. Amy Sniderman from Cleveland Clinic Children’s told Michigan News Network this week the bottom line is kids need to be more active, and parents can pave the way.

“Maintaining an active lifestyle, going outside and playing every day, making time for it, doing things as a family. Going for walks, going for hikes, going to the park together, demonstrating it as a parent and sort of living it yourself can help kids to remain active.”

Sniderman also recommends setting firm limits on screen time to encourage active play. Complete results for the study can be found in The Lancet.
