The next COVID-19 relief bill is coming together in Washington. Congressman Fred Upton tells WSJM News there will likely be liability protections in the package.

“It’s very hard to prove where someone might have contacted COVID, and so you’ve got a lot of different players suggesting that there might be some liability relief, particularly if protections were taken at that particular entity,” Upton said.

Upton also expects the next coronavirus relief bill to include funds that can be transferred to schools so they can deal with increased costs due to COVID.

“A lot of things are beginning to come into play, discussions are ongoing, and I think in the next two weeks or so, we’ll be able to see the beginnings of a framework.”

Upton thinks a plan will have to be approved by August before the U.S. House heads home. He told us previously another direct stimulus payment to all Americans could very well be part of the package. He does not believe it will include a continuation of the extra $600 that have been part of unemployment benefits.
