Brother, can you spare a dime? The coronavirus pandemic has caused a nationwide coin shortage, according to the Federal Reserve, and business owners are feeling it. Jerry Millen is the owner of a marijuana dispensary in Michigan. He spoke with Michigan News Network.

“We’re running out of change, and we have nowhere to turn because of the fact that we can only take cash in the cannabis industry,” Millen said. “Federally, we are still illegal. Can’t take credit cards, can’t take debit cards. It becomes a real problem. It could cost thousands of dollars to the business owners.”

Millen says the shortage began with pennies, and has now moved to quarters. He was offering to buy coins off customers who wanted to bring some in.
