Concerned about coronavirus in the pool? It’s probably safe. Dr. Frank Esper is an infectious disease specialist at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. He spoke with Michigan News Network.

“This is something that really has been spreading at this point through the air and on these droplets,” Esper said. “It is unlikely that this is going to be going through the water. I don’t suspect that the pools will be a problem, except that it brings a bunch of people together in one small area.”

Chlorinated pool water kills viruses, and should inactivate coronavirus. Dr. Esper said because public pools bring groups of people together and usually draw children, they’re probably not the best place to hang out this summer if you’re considered high risk for COVID-19.
