The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says a house fire in Grand Junction this week was arson. It says sheriff’s deputies were called out to the home in the 53,000 block of Summit Drive on Tuesday night at the request of the Columbia Township Fire Department. They were told a man was sitting outside wrapped in a blanket and saying that he had lit his house on fire because voices were telling him to do so. He said he had poured what the sheriff’s department calls an “accelerant” in the kitchen and then lit it on fire. The sheriff’s department then called in a K9 from Kent County that has been trained to detect such accelerants, and the dog confirmed one had been used. The 61-year-old Grand Junction man was arrested on a outstanding warrant for possession of meth. He’s now in the Van Buren County Jail.
