What Michigan has been doing to fight COVID-19 has been working. So says Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who provided a COVID update on Wednesday. She credited the state residents who have taken the pandemic seriously with flattening the state’s curve.

“A new report released by the Imperial College COVID-19 Response Team shows that the aggressive actions that we have taken here in Michigan protected our families from the spread of COVID-19 and have significantly lowered the number of cases and deaths that would have occurred if the state had done nothing.”

Whitmer urged everyone to continue taking COVID seriously. She said data shows before public health measures were in place, the average Michigan patient spread the virus to three other people. She said as measures were implemented, the state’s infection rate decreased to 2.5 people, then 1.25 people, and then 0.8 people.
