A group called the Committee To Recall Governor Gretchen Whitmer has received the okay to begin collecting signatures for its effort. The State Board of Canvassers this week approved the petition filed by Chad Baase, who plans to begin collecting signatures July 1.

“We are expecting to collect 1.5 million signatures from the time period of July 1 to the end of August,” Baase told Michigan News Network.

If successful, voters would decide if the governor should be recalled. Baase said Whitmer should be recalled because she signed nine executive orders during the coronavirus pandemic that hurt businesses.
