Michigan State Police are investigating a possible drowning in Weesaw Township. They say a trooper from the Niles post spotted an overturned boat on Rug Lake off Gardner Road around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. The trooper found nearby residents who said a relative had recently been fishing using the same boat. The trooper used a canoe to get into the water and found an 82-year-old man deceased. The victim, who was from Kalamazoo, was not wearing a life jacket. Police say further investigation will be done at the medical examiner’s office at Western Michigan University Medical Center. The name of the victim has not been released.
