Governor Gretchen Whitmer has a new program based on the G.I. Bill after World War Two to thank current frontline workers.

“Today I’m announcing ‘Futures for Frontliners,’” said Whitmer on Wednesday. “It’s a proposal to ensure those heroes have paths to opportunity. It will provide tuition-free college opportunities for people who have risked their lives fighting on the front line of this pandemic.”

The program is funded by federal money and will be open to essential workers who don’t have a college degree. She added “Futures for Frontliners” is a first-of-its kind program in the country. Those who take advantage of the program will be helping the governor reach her goal to increase the percentage of adults with a college degree or technical certificate from 45% to 60% in the next decade.
