Congressman Fred Upton hopes the nation can reopen itself for business safely as many states start pulling back from COVID-19 restrictions. Upton’s Problems Solvers Caucus this week released its Reopening and Recovery “Back to Work” Checklist. He tells WSJM News the Problem Solvers held several conference calls to iron out what issues need to be addressed.

“What are the testing requirements that we’re going to need? What’s it going to look like in the workplace? How can we work with states, particularly on a regional basis, in terms of what’s going on and the criteria that has to be used?”

The checklist includes things like the establishment of public health best practices, having protocols in place to deal with coronavirus hotspots, mass testing with rapid results, and making sure schools have personal protective equipment.

“These are just some of the ideas that we have, particularly as we work with our respective leaderships and the administration. All of us want our states to open up again, but it has to be in a safe way.”

Copies of the Reopening and Recovery Back to Work Checklist have been sent to Congressional leadership and the White House as options for immediate consideration in the next phase of coronavirus response. Upton says governors were also in on the discussions as the checklist was drafted. The reopening checklist can be found right here.
