Whirlpool is donating more personal protective equipment to Spectrum Health Lakeland and the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. Vice president of communications and public affairs Jeff Noel tells WSJM News it’s their way of saying thank you.

“This COVID-19 situation is very challenging and very difficult for everyone,” says Noel. “I think sometimes we just have to say ‘thank you’ in a way that’s meaningful to that police officer that makes a call, to that firefighter who has to go into a home, and especially the nurses, med techs and doctors that are out here taking care of our neighbors.”

Noel says they asked their procurement team to see what they could come up with.

“Over the past several weeks, Liz Door and her fabulous team have been making sure that we could be bringing in over seven shipments, over time, to be able to provide well over 92 skids, which is tens of thousands of medical masks, gloves, thermometers and hospital gowns to make sure  the people on the front lines have what they need to take care of everyone.

“You know, there is no separation between company and community in a crisis like this, and there is nothing more important than making sure that the family who has the head of household, perhaps, laid off, or the single mom, or someone taking care of their elderly parent to know that their hospital and first responders have the tools they need to take care of them,” added Noel.

That donation was given to Spectrum Health Lakeland CEO Dr. Loren Hamel this afternoon.
