Michigan Senate Republicans Announce Five-Phase Plan To Reopen State’s Economy

Republicans in the Michigan Senate say they’ve got a plan to get the state’s economy back on its feat. Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey says it’s a five-phase plan that doesn’t rush into anything.

“Based on real data, start slowly opening up as safely at work as you can at home,” Shirkey tells the Michigan News Network.

He and other members of the GOP are afraid too much is being lost due to Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order.

“I can guarantee you that if this shutdown continues at the extreme level it is right now, we’ll find out afterwards that the treatment was worse than the actual disease,” said Shirkey. He also ripped Whitmer’s comment to ABC’s Good Morning America that it’s “better for people to be six feet apart right now than six feet under” as “nothing more than fear-mongering.”

Whitmer has said she wants to reopen the state, but adds it needs to be done in a measured approach that doesn’t put any lives at risk. She has joined with the Republican and Democratic governors of six other Midwestern states to launch a regional effort to open things up.
