Congressman Fred Upton is waiting on a decision from the FDA on a proposal from Michigan State University for the possible sanitation of personal protective equipment so it can be reused. He tells WSJM News the MSU idea involves using a commercial grade oven.

“They have a system that they’ve identified that would actually cleanse these single-use personal protection devices, like a mask, and be able to use it multiple times, maybe ten or even two dozen times,” Upton said.

Upton and Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin have written the FDA to urge approval of the idea. The MSU idea also involves the tracking of pieces of equipment so it can get back to its original user. A decision from the FDA could come at any time.
