The Region IV Area Agency on Aging has launched a new phone line for seniors who are stuck in their homes and feeling lonely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Campus for Creative Aging Coordinator Amy Nichols tells WSJM News the Friendly Caller Program launched Wednesday.

“The idea is that we’re just a friendly person who reaches out and talks to them when they need it, and for as long as they need it,” Nichold said. “We just chit chat about things in their day and things in their life, and just that social interaction really picks up that mood and really kind of helps connect them to the outside world.”

The program is open to any senior who would like to connect with a friendly person to talk to while sheltering in place during the pandemic. Nichols says the line can be used to provide reassurance to and also to provide information. The number to call is 269-408-4332. You can leave a message and someone will call you back.
