Flint is under a coronavirus curfew. Mayor Sheldon Neeley says effective immediately, there is a city-wide curfew nightly from 9 pm to 6 am for the next 30 days, adding the pandemic needs to be taken seriously.

“Reports have been coming in from around the city that people have been gathering in parking lots of convenience stores and other places,” said Neeley. “That’s not acceptable. because one person contracting the virus, it spreads to another person and spread to another, and we need to curtail those places where this virus could be spread.”

People caught violating curfew could be charged with a misdemeanor, which carries penalties including a $500 fine and 30 days in jail. Anyone providing essential services will be exempt from the curfew.

Governor Whitmer was asked about a possible statewide curfew, and said it’s not something that’s under consideration at this point.
