Martin’s, Roger’s Reserve Shopping Time For Seniors

Martin’s Super Markets and Roger’s Foodland in St. Joseph have reserved time for seniors only to grocery shop. Roger’s tells us its store will switch to new hours, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the first hour of that will be for seniors and the vulnerable to shop.

Martin’s Super Markets is doing something similar at all of its Michigan and Indiana stores. Martin’s has released the following statement:

Martin’s Super Markets locations in Indiana and Michigan will reserve the hours of 7:00-9:00 a.m. tomorrow, March 19th, in addition to both Tuesday and Thursday of next week (March 24th and March 26th) for shoppers over the age of 60 who have been advised to avoid leaving home as much as possible during the Covid-19 outbreak.

“We are asking that our younger customers plan their shopping trips around these hours so that we can offer extra assistance to their senior relatives, friends and neighbors,” said Amy SimeriMcClellan, senior vice president, Martin’s Super Markets. “We thank our customers in advance for their support of our effort to keep the most vulnerable in our community safe and healthy.”

Martin’s Side Door Deli Café entrances will be open to all ages for those customers that want to pick up Starbucks or Caribou coffee and/or a lunch to go. In addition to the special hours, Martin’s “Groceries to Go” service is waiving the shopping fee for seniors placing orders beginning March 22 through March 31. Wednesday, March 25 will be a designated “Seniors Only” order day. Martin’s asks that younger shoppers select other pickup days in order to have all available time slots available for seniors. Martin’s does not under normal operations have any stores open 24 hours; currently, stores continue to be open regular hours which vary by location.

Simeri-McClellan also noted, “In order to better serve all of our customers, we have put in place limits on some items including milk, eggs, bread and certain meat products. Customers should see their neighborhood store for details as availabilities will vary by location. We are continuing to receive shipments and restock Martin’s Super Markets sets senior shopping hours amid Covid-19 concerns shelves. We appreciate our customers patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. We will get through these difficult times by working together to stay healthy and safe.”
