State Budget Proposal Includes Shoreline Protection Money

The Fiscal Year 2021 budget proposal from Governor Whitmer is now in front of lawmakers. State Budget Director Chris Kolb laid out the governor’s spending plans before a joint session of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. The budget includes $40 million for grants to go for shoreline erosion protection efforts. It also has a new $25 million dollar program to reimburse teachers up to $250 a year for classroom supplies purchased themselves. Additionally, the governor is also asking lawmakers to put money into the improvements in Illinois to the Brandon Road Lock and Dam in Joliet, seen as the last hope to keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.
