Benton Harbor Area Schools is ending some of its service contracts with Berrien RESA. RESA has handled facilities and operations, accounts payable, and payroll for the district since 2014. At a Tuesday meeting, Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education President Joseph Taylor said that’s coming to an end.

“Berrien RESA, we’ve been using them as a service partner since 2014,” Taylor said. “We appreciate everything they have done for the district. I appreciate their support when we needed them as a service provider, but at this time, Benton Harbor Area Schools is going to go in a different direction. Our direction is to be self sufficient with our own employees.”

Taylor told us the facilities and operations contract with RESA will end on March 31. He said the accounting and payroll contracts will end this spring. He met with Berrien RESA Superintendent Kevin Ivers to discuss the subject recently. Taylor said Benton Harbor Area Schools will continue to work with RESA in other ways, just like all other districts in Berrien County.
