A resolution from state Senator Aric Nesbitt of Lawton urging a reversal of the Whitmer administration’s rules mandating marijuana businesses have union approval before being able to open is headed to the House. The vote was 21-15, with two senators excused from session, and boos could be heard from the gallery as the vote was announced.
The Senate approved the measure during a brief half-hour session on Wednesday. Nesbitt says what the administration calls a “labor peace agreement” is in his mind a “forced unionization scheme” that benefits the “governor’s union boss friends” and is “a grotesque abuse of executive powers.” No senators spoke on the resolution during the session. Nesbitt says the requirement that a business have union approval to receive a government license needs to be removed.
