Be smart, be safe, and be seen on Halloween. That’s the word from AAA Michigan and spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland.

“Halloween can be one of the most deadly nights of the year for both pedestrians and (drivers),” says Woodland. “With the increased number of pedestrians trick-or-treating, the risk of cell phone distraction while driving and potentially impaired partygoers behind the wheel makes it a frightening combination.”

She says it’s best to put the phone down and leave it alone tonight while driving. Additionally, if you’re going to a party in costume, don’t wear a mask as it can limit your vision.

Woodland says over 40% of fatal crashes on Halloween involve a drunk driver, with 23% of those crashes involving pedestrians.
