The U.S. Department of Education is out with the list of the 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools, and New Buffalo Senior High School is among those being honored. It is one of 13 schools in the state and one of just four Michigan high schools to receive the designation. New Buffalo Area Schools superintendent Dr. Jeff Leslie tells WSJM News it’s a great honor, but it’s also a refection of the entire district.

“The high school is the flagship of the school district, but we certainly wouldn’t be getting these accolades at the high school without all the great things that are going on at the elementary and the middle school,” notes Leslie. “We want to make sure that we’re including everybody in the district in our celebration.”

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards. The schools were recognized for being among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or national tests.
