Benton Harbor Public Safety Director Dan McGinnis is working on launching some new block clubs in the community. He said at Monday’s city commission meeting there’s been strong interest.

“I’m happy to renew that project, and with vigor,” McGinnis said. “Right now, I’m working on a simple information packet for people who are interested in block clubs. It will have in it to start off with information on forming a block club, contact information in reference to commissioners, officers, city services that people could have.”

McGinnis said he would like to set up a system where block clubs could officially register with the city like they used to in years past. Block clubs are a way for people in neighborhoods to organize to improve the area, whether it be via crime reduction, landscaping, or trash collection.
