Tropical Storm Dorian On Track To Become Hurricane; Could Affect Caribbean And Puerto Rico

Tropical Storm Dorian increased in strength on Sunday afternoon and continued to move westward on a path toward the Caribbean. Dorian could be near hurricane strength when it reaches the islands in a few days.

As of the last advisory from the National Hurricane Center on Sunday, Tropical Storm Dorian was located about 375 miles east-southeast of Barbados and was moving west at 14 mph. The hurricane center said some additional strengthening is expected over the next two days, “and Dorian could be near hurricane strength over the eastern Caribbean Sea.”

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Barbados and now St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. And new tropical storm watches have been issued for for Grenada (and its dependencies) and Martinique. It also cautioned those in Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Hispaniola to keep a close eye on Dorian.
