People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it has put up its billboard along I-94 near Benton Harbor to memorialize about ten pigs that died in the crash of a livestock truck on June 28. The crash happened at Napier Avenue and I-94, and PETA’s billboard nearby shows a pig with the words “I’m ME, Not MEAT. See the Individual. Go Vegan.” PETA’s Sadie Buckles tells WSJM News the message is that animals like pigs should not be packed into trucks to be hauled off to death factories.

“Eating meat is completely unnecessary, and we’re asking people to stop contributing to preventable cruelty such as transport truck crashes by adopting a healthy vegan diet,” Buckles said.

PETA says in 2018 alone, there were more than 90 crashes in the U.S. involving trucks used to transport pigs, chickens, turkeys, and cows. So far in 2019, it’s already noted 55 crashes involving vehicles carrying animals used for food.
