A Chicago woman who got stuck on a dam in Niles Township Wednesday morning is safe after being rescued by firefighters from Niles and Niles Township. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says a 911 call came in just after 10 a.m. about a woman struggling in the Dowagiac River above the Pucket Street Dam. First responders arrived to find the woman clinging to the side of the dam, and they were able to pull her out of the water. The 34-year-old from Chicago had been tubing with friends in the river and had become trapped along the dam. She was wearing a life jacket, was not injured, and declined to be checked out at a hospital.
