There’s at least one Republican in the state House who wants to toss out one of former GOP Governor Rick Snyder’s first initiatives. Representative Joe Bellino of Monroe has introduced a bill to repeal what’s become known as the pension tax, and thinks he might be able to get Democrats on board.

“I believe the chief executive of our state campaigned on this, too,” Belino told Michigan News Network. “we’ll see what happens.”

Bellino says it was unfair of lawmakers in 2011 to pass it to balance the budget on the backs of retirees. He testified on the bill before the House Tax Policy Committee on Wednesday. No vote was taken.
