Marijuana will be discussed tonight in South Haven. The City Council has a special meeting starting at 6 p.m. to get a presentation on the legal status of both medicinal and recreational weed in the state. Following public comment and remarks by experts, the council will be asked to come up with direction and guidance for city staff and the Planning Commission for possible ordinances for both.

Medical marijuana has been legal for a decade in the state, but the rules surrounding it have been murky for most of that time due to former attorneys general Mike Cox and Bill Schuette fighting it. Recreational marijuana was decriminalized for adults over the age of 21 in November, and the state has until late this year to come up with the rules and regulations.
