The South Haven City Council is unable to make a choice on allowing or banning recreational marijuana businesses. City Manager Brian Dissette explains the consequences of the deadlocked vote Monday night which would have prohibited the businesses and directed the Planning Commission to study the city’s options with a placeholder ordinance.

“Unfortunately, the city council was split on the vote. It was a 3-3 vote to approve the ordinance, but it effectively is a ‘no’ vote,” Dissette told our newsroom. He said the vote was strictly regarding recreational, not medical, marijuana businesses. Staff will work with the city’s legal counsel to figure out the next step.
