Preserve the Dunes is offering a special tour of a Berrien County lakeshore park today. President Marcy Hamilton tells WSJM News an expert from the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy will present information on the environment on this Saturday’s tour of Hagar Township Park and Beach.

“There’s some interesting geology along that bluff there, not just the dunes but also kind of the end of what we call the marine, where the ice glaciers came down and formed this cliff and the dunes,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton says this Saturday’s free event would be a great way for individuals or entire families to learn about southwest Michigan’s dune areas. She says the largest freshwater dune system in the world is right around Lake Michigan. Hagar Township Park and Beach is north of St. Joseph off M-63 near West Bundy Road, and today’s tour will start at the parking lot at 10 a.m. It’ll take about two hours.
