Detroit native Garlin Gilchrist II is the pick of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gretchen Whitmer as her running mate. She introduced him at a campaign event in Lansing Monday morning.
“Garlin Gilchrist is the kind of running mate I was looking for,” Whitmer told supporters. “Smart, dedicated, a true public servant, someone who knows how to get things done.”
Gilchrist is a University of Michigan graduate who currently works at the school. He previously was the director of Innovation and Emerging Technology for the city of Detroit and also worked on the campaigns of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and former President Barack Obama.
Last week, Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Schuette tapped Lisa Posthumus Lyons, the current Kent County Clerk and Register of Deeds former state representative as his choice for lieutenant governor.
