The answers given to police by accused mass murderer Jason Dalton in Kalamazoo are being blocked from being used as evidence in his long-delayed trial. The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled local and state police violated his Miranda rights by ignoring his repeated requests for a lawyer while the questioning continued in February 2016. Dalton is charged with the murders of six people and for injuring two others, all while transporting customers for Uber. Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeffrey Getting isn’t too concerned.

“There’s other evidence that ties Mr. Dalton to each of these crimes,” commented Getting. Getting says he will review the court’s opinion, consult with police, the victims, and the survivors before making a decision whether or not to appeal. Two of those killed were a man and his son from Mattawan, and another was a woman from Baroda.
