Iglesias is 10 for 27 (.370) against Duffy in his big league career. Victor Martinez had three hits, including a pair of RBI singles. He was 6 for 12 with five RBIs in the series and had consecutive games with multiple RBIs for the first time since July 17-18 last year, also at Kansas City. Matthew Boyd (5-9) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking none. He had been 0-5 in seven starts since winning at Boston on June 7. Duffy (6-9) gave up seven runs, nine hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings and threw wild pitches that allowed John Hicks to score the go-ahead run in a four-run fourth and Iglesias to come home in the sixth.  The Tigers lead the majors with 51 day games. They are 25-26 in matinees. The Royals are 14-28 in the afternoon.

Angels 11, White Sox 3 – Trout, Pujols and Ohtani homer as Angels rout White Sox 11-3
Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani all homered in the same game for the first time, and the Los Angeles Angels routed Chicago White Sox 11-3 on Wednesday night. Trout connected twice and drove in four runs. Ohtani added a two-run shot projected at 446 feet.   Tyler Skaggs (8-6) tied a career high with nine strikeouts in six overpowering innings for Los Angeles. Trout had another grand day with his 13th career multihomer game. He hit a solo shot in the first inning and a three-run drive in the sixth to give him 28 homers this season. The two-time MVP went 3 for 4 and scored three runs. Pujols hit a solo homer to left field in the second, his 17th of the season. Skaggs retired the first 10 batters he faced, seven by strikeout. He allowed two runs, one earned, and four hits. James Shields (4-12) had another difficult outing for Chicago, giving up three home runs.

Cubs 2, Diamondbacks 1 – Cubs edge Diamondbacks 2-1 on unearned run in eighth
Jon Lester bounced back from his worst start of the season with six strong innings and the Cubs scored the go-ahead run in the eighth on Arizona shortstop Nick Ahmed’s throwing error as Chicago edged the Diamondbacks 2-1 on Wednesday. Chicago mounted the winning rally against Arizona reliever T.J. McFarland (2-2) without getting a ball out of the infield. Pinch-hitter Javier Baez led off the eighth by squibbing a single toward the mound. McFarland threw wide of first, and Baez advanced to second. After pitcher Tyler Chatwood ran for Baez, who didn’t start because of a sore left knee, and Ian Happ walked, pinch-hitter Jason Heyward bounced to second baseman Ketel Marte. Marte flipped to Ahmed for a force at second, but Ahmed’s throw to first sailed over Paul Goldschmidt as he tried to complete a double play. Reliever Carl Edwards Jr. (3-1) pitched a hitless seventh and eighth. Pedro Strop tossed a scoreless ninth for his fourth save in seven chances as NL Central leading Chicago bounced back after losses to Arizona in the first two games of the four-game series. Ben Zobrist singled in Albert Almora Jr. to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead in the 4th.

WNBA – WNBA picks Brunson to sub for ill Ogwumike on All-Star team
Minnesota Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson has been picked as an All-Star Game injury replacement for Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike, who’s been sidelined by an illness. The WNBA announced Wednesday that Brunson will join Candace Parker’s team, which will face Elena Della Donne’s team in the exhibition in Minnesota on Saturday. For the first time, the league had two captains select the squads, rather than pitting the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference. This will be the fifth All-Star Game appearance for Brunson, her fourth as a member of the Lynx. She has three teammates also playing in the showcase event on their home court: Seimone Augustus, Sylvia Fowles and Maya Moore. This is a WNBA-record fourth time the Lynx have had four representatives.

NFL – Falcons WR Julio Jones will report to training camp
Julio Jones has agreed to report to Falcons training camp on time after accepting general manager Thomas Dimitroff’s commitment to renegotiate his contract in 2019. The wide receiver pressed the Falcons to redo his deal, even though he still has three years remaining on a $71.3 million contract that included $47 million in guaranteed money. The Falcons balked at Jones’ demands, which led to him skipping offseason workouts as well as a mandatory minicamp.

NFL – Luck feeling healthy for start of Colts’ training camp
Andrew Luck says he’s feeling better than he has in a “long time” as the Indianapolis Colts open training camp Wednesday. He is expected to do all the usual quarterback work when practice begins Thursday, marking the first time since January 2017 that he has practiced or played in front of fans. Luck has missed more than 19 months since having surgery on his throwing shoulder. He resumed throwing in May, threw during the final two days of the Colts’ minicamp last month, and has continued his rehab for the last five weeks in California. Luck isn’t the only one feeling positive. Coach Frank Reich says the tentative plan calls for Luck to play in Indy’s Aug. 9 preseason opener at Seattle.

NFL – Jerry Jones: Cowboys can’t stay in locker room for anthem
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has doubled down on insisting that his players stand for the national anthem, saying he wouldn’t support anyone who chose to stay in the locker room. Jones said, “Our policy is that you stand at the anthem, toe on the line.” The league and the players’ union agreed last week to suspend the rule approved by owners this spring that gave players the option of staying in the locker room while allowing teams to discipline players who took a knee or sat during the anthem.

Horse Racing – Triple Crown winner Justify retired from racing
Triple Crown winner Justify has been retired from racing because of fluid in his left front ankle.  Trainer Bob Baffert and Justify’s owners said caution over the horse’s ankle condition made it impossible to tell if he’d be healthy enough to race by the fall.  Baffert said Justify wasn’t responding quickly enough to treatment to be able to race in the next few months, so the decision was made to retire him.  Justify won all six career starts, becoming the first horse since Apollo in 1882 to capture the Kentucky Derby after not racing as a 2-year-old. He won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes to become the 13th Triple Crown winner.
