Police are investigating a fatal hit and run crash in Benton Township early Friday morning. The Benton Township Police Department tells WSJM News it happened around 1:20 a.m. in the 1,100 block of Paw Paw Avenue. Security camera footage shows 45-year-old Exavier Hassel walking south along the road when he fell over into the southbound lane. While he was lying there, a vehicle came along and stuck him. The vehicle did not stop, and police have not identified it or its driver. Hassel was pronounced dead at the scene, and police have ordered an autopsy. At this time, they do not know why he fell into the road. Anyone with information on the driver of the vehicle that stuck Hassel is asked to contact the Benton Township Police Department.
