The jobs of the future are on the mind of Governor Rick Snyder heading into a new year. He told WSJM’s Pat Moody this week the top priority in 2018 is connecting people to the careers offering the most opportunity, like skilled trades.

“You’re in a high-tech field if you’re on the manufacturing floor today, and it’s about robotics and industrial automation,” Snyder said. “You’re not getting dirty anymore,. You’re probably working on a computer console, and these are great positions that are going to be there for the long term.”

Snyder says people need to hear that message. They also need to know they can get a great job in many high-tech fields with just a year or two of training. He wants to push the career pathways message throughout the next year to build on what he says are the state’s recent economic successes.
