The preliminary analysis by police into a fatal crash involving an Amtrak train in Lawton Tuesday night is that the driver of the pick-up struck by the train had gotten stuck on the tracks. The Lawton Police Department tells us the driver of the pick-up was 17-year-old Tyler Wirtz of Bronson Michigan. His truck was struck by an Amtrak train headed to Port Huron from Chicago around 7:30 Tuesday night on North Nursery Street just north of Third Street in Lawton. Police believe the pick-up was stuck on the tracks and Wirtz was trying to free it when the crash happened. Wirtz was pronounced dead at Bronson Lakeview Hospital . The investigation has also determined the crossing signal activated correctly as the train approached the intersection. Anyone with further information on the crash is asked to contact Lawton police.
