Consumers Energy has received a perfect score from the Human Rights Coalition on its 2018 Corporate Equality Index. Consumers spokesperson Roger Morgenstern tells WSJM News the index ranks businesses all across the country on how they treat LGBTQ workers. He says Consumers has many equality programs.

“We want to have an employee base that reflects the Michigan communities that we serve, and by offering an inclusive workplace, we think we have a warm and welcoming place to work for our more than 7,000 employees across the state of Michigan.”

Among other things, Consumers Energy has an in-house network of LGBTQ employees called the Pride Alliance of Consumers Energy. They offer support services to each other. Plus, Consumers was a key backer if an anti-discrimination law in its hometown of Jackson, Michigan. In all, the Human Rights Coalition Corporate Equality Index gave perfect scores to 609 businesses, 14 of which are in Michigan. Whirlpool is one of them.
